Margaret Elkins | Mrs. Kentucky 2018
On October 21, 2017, the dream came true for Margaret Elkins as she was crowned Mrs. Kentucky 2018.

Margaret is a graduate student at Eastern Kentucky University where she is working on her Master's in Mental Health Counseling. She will graduate in December and hopes to obtain her counseling license in February. She interns at the Hope Center in Lexington, KY, which provides housing for homeless men with chronic mental illness. She also works as a Mental Health Associate at Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, KY. Margaret also has dealt with mental illness on a personal level with schizophrenia running in her family.

Due to things that Margaret has seen through her work in mental health and family experiences she has had, Margaret hopes to use the Mrs. Kentucky title to promote suicide prevention and to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.

Margaret enjoys spending time with her large family. She has six brothers and sisters and thirteen nieces and nephews. Margaret lives in Richmond with her husband of four years, Dustin Elkins, and their fur children, Dottie, Dingo, Millie, and their 6 chickens.
